Mission Summary

After assembling as a new team in Nazi occupied Paris, the team barely had time to choose bunks before Mother contacted them with their first mission. They were to delve into the catacombs beneath Notre Dame and retrieve an ancient Christian artifact before the SGA could do the same. Time was ticking away, and so the Augurs were forced to action with what scant intelligence they had been provided and their own wits and training.

Joined by a member of the French Resistance who provided hard-won intelligence on the cathedral and the location of the artifact, the Augurs whisked away from their secret base of operations above a local florist’s through the hostile streets of Nazi Paris toward the target. On arriving, the team could see that this would be no walk in the park, as the cathedral had been locked down tight by the enemy and was being actively guarded by Wehrmacht patrols.

Using her superb infiltration skills, the Resistance fighter scaled the cathedral wall and let the team in through a seldom-used door on the cathedral’s far side. Once inside, the team investigated the altar, which was suspected to be a secret entrance into the catacombs below. With their keen eyes and skills of deduction, they were able to locate and operate the hidden switch, opening the carefully hidden doorway to the staircase that would lead them far below the streets of Paris and into the darkness below.

Again with the key information provided by a fallen Resistance member, the Augurs swiftly located the artifact chamber mentioned in the intercepted German communiques. They were awed by the ancient scene set before them, as centered in the far wall of the chamber was the perfectly preserved armor of a Christian crusader with the artifact hanging on a chain around its neck: the Cross of Ashod.

With attentions focused on the cross and the beautiful armor it adorned, it wasn’t until one of the Augurs touched the cross to retrieve it and the rattle of dry bones was heard that the team paid any attention to the piles of the dead lining the walls of the chamber. You can be sure that when several sets of these remains stood and took up arms that the Augurs attention was finally pulled from the cross!

As fighting ensued, the team was forced to rally their wits and ignore the impossibility of the dead rising to repel them as they struggled to keep from joining them. It was then that the Crusader himself shuddered to life and began leading the battle against the Augurs! Wielding a greatsword and wearing ornate plate armor, the Crusader was a fearsome sight to behold, made even more terrifying when he raised the Cross and channeled energy that seemed to breathe new unlife into his fellow bone warriors!

But although they faced terrors that most minds would crack upon beholding, the Augurs were able to call on their training and their knowledge that in this war of dark forces unknown, such things were indeed possible. Steeled by the resolute command of their cell leader, they were able to summon the courage to keep fighting, and soon the bones were returned to their more natural state on the floor of the chamber.

Just as it seemed that all that remained was to grab the cross and make for the exit, the Augurs were alerted by their keen senses to the approach of a Nazi patrol. Taking up hiding among the bones and ruins, it wasn’t long before their eyes lay upon the SGA Man for the first time.

Before even catching their breath from the previous fight, the Augurs found themselves crossing metaphorical swords with yet another foe. Though this enemy was more conventional than the last, wielding small arms rather than ancient blades, they were no less fearsome. This was made especially clear when the SGA Man let loose his first spell quickly followed by a second and a third!

The Augurs were taken aback as the Man seemed to blur in and out of their vision before they suddenly found themselves seemingly glued into place, their feet having sunken into the very stone of the chamber! Again, however, they were able to call upon their inner reserves and win the day, killing the SGA Man and his guard before escaping the chamber to flee the catacombs and return the artifact to ORRDA.

It wasn’t to be so easy, however, for even though it seemed that their fighting was over for the night, they returned to the surface to find that the Cathedral guard had been placed on alert! Thinking quickly, the team commandeered a fighting vehicle and fled through the streets of Paris in a pitched mobile battle against the Wehrmacht forces guarding the location. With their fighting prowess and some quick decisions, they were able to slip into the dark Paris night and make the rendesvous with the Auspex sent to courier the Cross back to an ORRDA research facility.

Thus the team was introduced to Paris, and to the dangerous work they had been recruited for. They returned to their safehouse to rest and await the orders for their next mission.

The Assignment

Liberate and retrieve a defecting SGA scientist and the U.S. O.S.S. agent who was helping him from Nazi clutches. If rescue is deemed impossible, kill both men to keep them from revealing anything to the Reich.

Assigned Augurs

Maj. Alastor Fielding
Sgt. Anthony Labella
Hptm. Gunter von Wulfgang
Alexadrie Claire Casse
Priestess

Mission Summary

The Augurs were given their mission directly from their primary Auspex, known as Mother. It seemed simple enough: free the defecting scientist and his handler from the Axis troops holding them, or if unable to, kill them.

When they arrived to the mission site, however, it became apparent that a direct assault was likely to end badly for everyone. The building was solid and secure, and heavily guarded day and night, as it was the temporary HQ for German military operations in the immediate area. Not only was rescue from the HQ not an option, the backup plan would likely end up in their own captures or deaths.

On collection of further intelligence, it was revealed that the prisoners were to be loaded into a convoy for transport to the train station, where they would be loaded onto a train bound for Berlin. The Augurs made the operational decision to attack the convoy and retrieve the prisoners in the resulting chaos.

The attack went as planned, the explosives went off as timed, and the convoy was stopped. The air was filled with the sounds of gunfire and screams, shouted orders and smoke.

In the midst of the fighting, he appeard. They were shocked to see him. But he was dead! They watched him die in the Catacombs under Paris!

The SGA Man.

Amid the shooting and fires and explosions, suddenly the air was also filled with the tingling crackle of eldritch energy as the Augurs’ magical member clashed with their occult-powered foe.

But he was no match for the combined might of the ORRDA agents, and before long, their spells and bullets had put the SGA Man down. Again.

The mission a success, their targets retrieved and handed off, the agents retreated to their safehouse to report to Mother and discuss what they had seen.

Trip to the Library
TDR: Episode 3

The Assignment

Meet an ally from the Kreissau Circle who has intelligence on the location of a small Thule Society library currently in Nazi possession. Retrieve the volumes by any means necessary for transfer and study by ORRDA.

Augurs Assigned

Maj. Alastor Fielding
Sgt. Anthony Labella
Alexadrie Claire Casse
Hptm. Gunter von Wulfgang
Priestess

Mission Summary

The Augurs arrived at the meeting point to find their contact brutally torn asunder and quite dead. Thankfully, the Augurs thorough search turned up a few interesting things. One, the Kreissau man was carrying a silver sword and a Luger 9mm pistol with a magazine with silver tipped bullets, and a scrap of paper in a hidden flap behind the man’s coat pocket: a memo detailing the transfer of the Thule tomes from a commandeered private residence to the German airship Havelbert. The problem? The airship was scheduled to leave the airfield in 15 minutes, and they were 45 minutes away by car!

Before they could finish discussing the strange armaments carried by the man and come up with a plan for getting to the airfield, they were discovered by a Nazi patrol! Not just any patrol, either, but him.

Right there, in the Paris night air, was the now twice-killed SGA Man!

And he wasn’t alone. As fighting broke out, they were again stunned as the two SS troops began to shapeshift, leaving two large Wolfen figures in their place.

A pitched battle ensued, but even against supernatural and never-before-seen foes, the Augurs were able to come out on top, though bloody and battered, and they promptly set out for the airfield.

Once at the airfield, a new plan was hatched. They would steal an airplane and moor on the airshiip in flight. With quick thinking and some good acting, they managed to get a plane and get airborne.

On approach to the airship, again quick wits were employed, and the airship granted them permission to moor and come aboard.

They quickly found their targets in the cargo bay, but discovered that getting away with them would be a bigger challenge than they had anticipated, as it was a large pallet of crated books!

The solution? The Augurs rigged the pallet with chutes and jumped with their prize in hand!

Mission Summary

After jumping from a German zeppelin with a trove of arcane tome stolen right out from under the SGA and the Nazis, the Augurs rushed to hold their operation together in a farmer’s field in rural France before the Reich could mount enough of a response to put them down.

The decision was made to split up. Imperator and Cpl. Labella stayed in the field to guard the books until the Resistance could pick them up in a truck, while the rest of the team rushed back to the safehouse to report to Mother.

On their return to the safehouse, however, the realized that they had been compromised!

The safehouse had been boobytrapped, and the SGA Man was closing in on them with his troops!

With their well honed skills and keen wits, the Augurs managed to turn the explosives back on the Nazi attackers and even the odds somewhat, but setting the safehouse ablaze in the process!

Fighting their way out, the Augurs escaped the safehouse raid to meet back up with their companions at the French Resistance hideout.

Making contact with Mother, the Augurs discovered that they were no longer to be operating in Paris.

It was on to Cairo.

The Assignment

Establish new safehouse in Cairo. Discover the intention of the covert German presence in Cairo.

Maj. Alastor Fielding
Sgt. Anthony Labella
Sphinx
Temporary Agent: <redacted>

Mission Summary

After making contact with an ORRDA operative and receiving the “keys” to their new safehouse, the Augurs went about establishing themselves in Cairo.

Contacting Mother, the Augurs were informed that they were to seek out SGA presence in Cairo and find out what their intent was in Egypt as quickly as possible.

After spending their first day in Egypt performing human intelligence instead of relaxing as they had planned, they quickly pieced together that the Germans were planning a large expedition out to the great pyramids, and had received some rather strange appearing equipment through the train station with which to do so.

Quickly making their own arrangements, the Augurs set out after the Germans into the desert. Electing to observe rather than act rashly, they watched from hiding as the Nazis set up an elaborate camp and began digging. The the Augurs’ surprise, however, the Germans were digging at the bases of three of the lesser-known and less explored pyramids: The Pyramids of the Queens.

Taking the risk of discovery, the Augurs made their way into the camp to find out what they could about the aim of the Reich: the SGA was hunting the mythical Gems of the Queens, powerful artifacts with dangerous powers lost to antiquity.

Electing a “wait and see” approach, the Augurs observed as on the third day, the Germans made their way into their dug out vaults with strange, sturdy iron boxes, apparently ready to retrieve the gems.

After a few hours, the first of the artifact retrieval teams returned to the surface looking accomplished. An hour later, the second team returned with their prize. Then, another hour, and another passed with no word from the third team.

The Germans finally sent a small squad of soldiers to check on the retrieval team. Another two hours passed, with the camp becoming more and more abuzz with frustrated and fearful activity. Finally, a large contingent of soldiers were sent into the hole, armed to the teeth.

About 30 minutes later, howls and screams were heard erupting from the entryway to the base of the third pyramid as a few German soldiers are chased out of the pyramid by howling spirits and their own dead comrades! Chaos erupted and the remaining Germans put up a decent fight, but eventually all that remained were bodies and a few undead German soldiers that seemed to wander about the ruined camp. Meanwhile, the spirits retreated back into the depths of the crypts.

After some deliberation, the Augurs made their way into the camp, putting down the few roving undead soldiers as they made their way to the opening of the third chamber. Making their way underground, they followed a winding passageway for several hundred yards and came to a large cavern with a sarcophagus in the center.

Even after making several choice observations about the legends of mummies and deliberating over who would open the coffin, the Augurs were not truly prepared to be set upon by the ancient queen and her guardians!

After a pitched battle with the undead monarch, they stood successful, the last Gem of the Queens in hand and the SGA defeated once again…for now.

Assignment

Investigate the failure of the courier to make his meeting to hand over the Gems of the Queens to ORRDA.

Augurs Assigned

Maj. Alastor Fielding
Sgt. Anthony Labella

Temporary Assignment: <redacted>

Mission Summary

After poking around a bit, the Augurs managed to discover the location of a secret underground bar where Germans and Nazi sympathizers meet in Cairo to be among friendly minds and to conduct business in British Cairo.

Deciding to dangerously infiltrate the club, the Augurs discovered that the SGA Man was in Cairo, and that he had retrieved the Gems and made his way back into the desert to continue Nazi operations in Egypt. They also discovered that there many rumors as to what the Gems were capable of, one more fantastical than the next! Finally, they made the discovery that a large contingent of Nazi forces had been secretly moving in from the West overland, including many men, several vehicles, and some aircraft.

The Augurs, with this new information on what they faced, got in touch with HQ and arranged some British reinforcements! With their new found support, the Augurs made their way into the desert to face the Reich once again.

On their arrival, the agents found that the Gems had been installed at the peak of the three highest pyramids, and that each one was generating a powerful magical beam that was focused on the Great Sphinx…and that it was alive and kicking!

A pitched battle ensued between the Augurs and their allies and the German forces. After realizing that their weapons were useless in direct attacks on the magical beast, the Augurs and their allies decided to focus their fire and efforts on destroying the gem emplacements. This did the trick, and once the magical beams were no longer invigorating the creature, it was easily dealt with by the allied forces.

Meanwhile, the SGA Man attempted to make his escape on one of the two planes at the edge of the camp. He didn’t make it very far, however, before the Augurs took out his plane, and him…again.

Assignment

Decrypt intelligence found at the Pyramids and inform ORRDA of actionable intelligence.

Find the secret airfield discovered in the Pyramid intel. Destroy the airfield and abscond with the mentioned crates of artifacts. RTBORRDA HQ.

Augurs Assigned

Maj. Alastor Fielding

Radclyffe Homer Storm

Mission Summary

After receiving a new decryption key from “the boys and girls in the lab,” the Augurs set to work pouring through the intelligence they had collected at the Pyramids following the battle with the awakened Sphinx. In it, they discovered that the Germans were operating a secret airbase deeper in the desert, and were about to ship out crates of artifacts they had retrieved during their operations in the deserts of Egypt.

On communicating this to Mother, the Augurs received orders to make their way to the airfield, destroy it, and abscond to ORRDA HQ with the artifacts mentioned in the decrypted documents.

On arrival to the location given in the intel, the Augurs were surprised to find…nothing. On further investigation, however, they discovered that the airfield was entirely hidden using the very same “invisibility field generators” that they had encountered at Giza.

Using his penchant for disguise and impersonation, Imperator inserted himself into the German forces to scout the airfield and collect field intelligence in preparation for the mission at hand. Once a quick sketch of the base had been made, the Augurs devised a plan to maximize destruction and inflict heavy losses on the Nazis while directing their attention away from the Heinkel carrying the artifacts.

With the airfield erupting in to explosive chaos around them, the Augurs made for their escape vehicle. Unfortunately, they weren’t the only ones! As they neared the cargo plane they found themselves facing none other than the SGA Man and his retinue of Wolfentruppen! A furious battle ensued, with each side expending every ounce of might and magical force they had with which to win the field and the plane carrying the precious cargo.

Down to their last magazines and licking their wounds, the Augurs managed to board the plane and start it taxiing down the runway. There was a collective sigh of relief as the wheels left the ground, and the fires began to fall away underneath them.

They were airborne. Turning the nose of the plane for London, the Augurs could finally relax for a moment.
